Our client is a global hyperscale data centre operator expanding its footprint across the Asia-Pacific region. As the platform continues to develop and deliver mission-critical infrastructure across multiple regional markets, they are seeking an experienced Customer Design Manager to join their Design Delivery function.

This is a regional role at the intersection of customer requirements, technical design and project delivery. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring data centre designs meet demanding requirements around reliability, availability, efficiency, sustainability, safety, cost and speed-to-market.

Working across both greenfield developments and fit-out projects, you will manage multiple projects concurrently across regional metros and play a key role in translating customer technical requirements into consistent, buildable and high-performing data centre solutions.


Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the design delivery of multiple data centre projects in parallel across regional markets, covering both greenfield developments and fit-outs.
- Develop project design briefs, technical requirements and key design metrics to drive consistency in quality and delivery across the portfolio.
- Ensure designs achieve required standards for reliability, availability, PUE, WUE, sustainability, regulatory compliance, safety, cost and programme.
- Lead and hold accountable multidisciplinary consultant teams, including architects, town planners, civil & structural engineers, mechanical and electrical engineers, environmental consultants, LEED consultants and geotechnical engineers.
- Act as a key technical interface with customers, securing design buy-in and managing customer-driven design changes throughout the project lifecycle.
- Support customers' technical RFP processes and manage technical compliance, deviations, exceptions and SLA-related requirements.
- Maintain alignment with customers' evolving technical standards and ensure these requirements are appropriately incorporated into project designs.
- Drive design standardisation across projects while effectively managing market-specific and customer-specific requirements.
- Partner with designers, consultants and suppliers to identify improvements in safety, efficiency, sustainability and constructability.
- Make timely design decisions to maintain programme momentum and improve speed-to-market.
- Visit project sites to ensure construction methodologies, site coordination and equipment performance remain aligned with the approved design criteria, maintainability and reliability requirements.
- Oversee consistency between design intent, construction quality and final project delivery.
- Capture lessons learned across projects and translate them into continuous design improvements for future developments.
- Drive innovative design and delivery solutions that enable faster and more consistent deployment across the regional portfolio.

What Success Looks Like
Success in this position means delivering repeatable, customer-aligned and technically robust data centre designs across multiple APAC markets while balancing the competing priorities of quality, cost, programme, compliance and speed.

You will be expected to build strong alignment between the customer, internal stakeholders, consultants, suppliers and project delivery teams — ensuring that technical decisions made during design translate effectively into construction and ultimately into successful customer handover.

Key Requirements:
- 10+ years of design consultancy experience, including at least five years operating at Principal Engineer level.
- Proven design experience working across multiple regional markets.
Professional Engineer, Registered Architect or equivalent practising certification is preferred.
- Experience across Design-Bid-Build, Design & Build and other design delivery methodologies.
- Hyperscale data centre experience is highly preferred.
- Strong technical leadership combined with excellent communication, interpersonal and influencing capabilities.
- The ability to lead and challenge multidisciplinary consultants and professional teams while maintaining alignment with customers and project stakeholders.
- Working proficiency in English and Mandarin, as stipulated in the original brief.
- Flexibility to travel and, where required, relocate in support of regional business and project requirements.
