This is a highly technical and influential position responsible for architecting, optimizing and scaling advanced cooling infrastructure to support the increasing demands of both conventional cloud and high-density AI compute workloads.
The successful candidate will bring strong end-to-end cooling systems expertise, from heat rejection plant through to rack-level cooling, together with a proven ability to optimize designs against reliability, sustainability, efficiency, cost and speed-to-market objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- You will serve as a technical authority for cooling system architecture and will be responsible for:
- Developing end-to-end cooling system architectures, including system topology and detailed schematics from heat rejection systems through to rack-level cooling for both air-cooled and liquid-cooled applications.
- Establishing cooling system designs that support the required control philosophy, operational resilience and continuous operation across different cooling technologies.
- Developing capacity planning strategies incorporating thermal buffers and rapid-response capabilities to accommodate the highly dynamic power profiles associated with AI workloads.
- Leading the right-sizing and selection of cooling equipment, balancing peak demand, redundancy, modularity, scalability and overall system performance.
- Developing system configurations and sequences of operation that optimize energy and water efficiency, including PUE and WUE performance.
- Performing and/or overseeing thermal, airflow and hydraulic studies, including computational fluid dynamics (CFD), to validate environmental conditions and heat-transfer-fluid requirements.
- Developing and standardizing build-to-suit cooling design templates, enabling faster design cycles while maintaining technical quality and achieving targeted cost outcomes.
- Driving future-ready cooling architectures that can adapt to evolving data centre workloads, increasing rack densities and emerging cooling technologies.
- Working closely with internal and external stakeholders to resolve complex technical challenges and drive projects toward the desired outcomes.
- The role will provide exposure to a broad range of advanced data centre cooling technologies, including:
- Direct and indirect evaporative cooling
- Closed-circuit heat exchange systems
- Dry coolers
- Magnetic-bearing chillers
- Cold-plate liquid cooling
- Immersion cooling
- Thermal energy storage and buffering solutions
- Chiller plant control and operational systems
Key Requirements:
- We are looking for a seasoned data centre mechanical engineering professional with a strong combination of design depth, systems thinking and practical project leadership.
- 15+ years of data centre detailed design experience, including at least 5 years in a Principal Engineer or MEP Manager capacity.
- Demonstrated experience delivering complex data centre designs across regional markets/metropolitan locations.
- Strong experience in hyperscale data centre environments.
- Proven expertise in mechanical engineering studies, including:
- Airflow modelling
- Heat-load calculations
- Hydraulic calculations
- CFD modelling
- Hot-air re-entrainment analysis
- Rate-of-temperature-rise simulations
- Boundary noise simulations
- Prevailing-wind and hot-air exhaust assessments
- Experience with the design and equipment selection for associated infrastructure, including make-up water tanks, thermal storage tanks, centralized diesel storage and delivery systems, goods lifts and fireman lifts.
- Experience with energy modelling for Green Mark data centres.
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD for design and drafting.
- Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent and fast-track projects, solve complex engineering challenges and drive innovative design solutions.
- Mechanical Professional Engineer / ACMV qualification with practising certificate preferred.
- LEED professional credentials preferred.
- Proficiency in English and Mandarin.
- Willingness to travel in line with project requirements.
Why This Role Matters
As AI and high-density computing continue to transform data centre infrastructure, cooling architecture is becoming increasingly critical to performance, resilience and scalability.
This role offers the opportunity to operate at the forefront of that transformation — influencing cooling strategies across complex hyperscale environments, developing scalable and efficient solutions, and helping establish standardized architectures that can be deployed rapidly across future projects.
We are looking for someone who is not simply experienced in mechanical design, but who can think at system level, challenge conventional approaches, solve complex problems and take ownership of delivering the right technical outcome.
If you are a senior mechanical engineering leader with deep data centre cooling expertise and are excited by the next generation of AI and liquid-cooling infrastructure, this is an opportunity to make a significant impact. Apply now to find out more!
