Sitting within the Customer Design function, this is a highly technical role responsible for developing cooling architectures that deliver reliability, energy and water efficiency, scalability, cost optimisation and speed to market.
The successful candidate will bring deep expertise across conventional and next-generation cooling technologies, with particular experience designing solutions for high-density AI and cloud computing workloads. You will play a critical role in defining cooling system architecture from the central heat rejection plant through to rack-level cooling, including both air-cooled and liquid-cooled environments.
Key Responsibilities
- You will take technical ownership of cooling system architecture and design, including:
- Develop end-to-end cooling system topology and detailed schematics, covering heat rejection plants through to rack-level cooling for both air and liquid cooling applications.
- Design cooling systems and control philosophies that support continuous, highly reliable data centre operations.
- Develop capacity strategies incorporating thermal buffering and fast-response cooling to accommodate dynamic power demand associated with AI workloads.
- Lead the right-sizing and selection of cooling equipment, balancing peak demand, redundancy, modularity, scalability and future expansion requirements.
- Define system configurations and sequences of operation to optimise energy and water efficiency, including PUE and WUE performance.
- Perform and/or oversee computational fluid dynamics, thermal and hydraulic calculations to ensure environmental and heat-transfer-fluid service levels are achieved.
- Develop and standardise build-to-suit cooling design templates to shorten design cycles, accelerate deployment and optimise project cost.
- Future-proof cooling architecture to accommodate evolving AI, high-density computing and next-generation workload requirements.
- Provide technical leadership across concurrent, fast-track data centre developments, working closely with internal stakeholders, consultants, contractors, equipment manufacturers and other external partners.
- Drive innovative engineering solutions and take ownership of technical challenges through to successful resolution and delivery.
Key Requirements:
- 15+ years of data centre detailed design experience, including more than 5 years in a Principal Engineer, MEP Manager or equivalent senior technical leadership position.
- Proven experience delivering data centre designs across multiple regional markets and metros.
- Strong experience within hyperscale data centre environments.
- Deep technical expertise in mechanical and cooling system design, including:
- Airflow modelling
- Heat-load calculations
- Hydraulic calculations
- Computational fluid dynamics modelling
- Hot-air re-entrainment analysis
- Rate-of-temperature-rise simulations
- Boundary noise simulations
- Prevailing-wind impact on hot-air exhaust
- Direct and indirect evaporative cooling
- Closed-circuit heat exchange
- Dry coolers
- Magnetic-bearing chillers
- Cold-plate liquid cooling
- Immersion cooling
- Experience in equipment selection and design for supporting infrastructure including make-up water tanks, thermal storage tanks, centralised diesel storage and delivery systems, goods lifts and fireman lifts.
- Experience undertaking energy modelling for Green Mark Data Centre requirements.
- Strong AutoCAD capability for engineering design and drafting.
Key Qualifications
- Degree or recognised professional qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Mechanical Professional Engineer (ACMV) with a practising certificate is strongly preferred.
- LEED professional credentials are advantageous.
- Proficiency in English and Mandarin.
- Willingness to travel according to project requirements.
