A fast growing hyperscale data centre developer and operator is expanding its footprint across Southeast Asia. As its Malaysia portfolio grows, the business is seeking an HSE Director to lead safety, health and environmental performance across operating facilities, major construction projects, offices and future developments.

This is a senior leadership role with a clear mandate: bring an established HSE team together under one consistent operating framework, strengthen critical risk controls, and give customers and regulators confidence as the business scales.
The opportunity

You will serve as the principal HSE adviser to the Malaysia leadership team and lead HSE Managers, specialists and site teams across construction and operations. Working closely with the Group HSE function, you will set the country strategy and ensure that safety is built into project delivery, operational decisions and expansion plans.

Key Responsibilities:
- Leading and developing the Malaysia HSE team, aligning standards, reporting, audits and assurance across sites.
- Setting HSE priorities, performance measures and improvement plans for the country.
- Providing oversight of high-risk construction work, including energisation, commissioning, lifting, work at height, confined spaces and simultaneous operations.
- Strengthening controls for live data centre operations, including electrical safety, energy isolation, fire and life safety, emergency response and contractor management.
- Leading regulatory compliance and engagement with relevant Malaysian authorities.
- Acting as the senior HSE contact for hyperscale customers, including audits, assurance reviews and significant incident communications.
- Overseeing investigations, corrective actions and the sharing of lessons across projects and operating facilities.
- Supporting safe handover from construction to operations while protecting operational reliability.

Key Requirements:
- You are an established HSE leader who has managed both complex construction programmes and operational facilities in a high-risk environment. You can set strategy, develop leaders and engage credibly with executives, site teams, customers, contractors and regulators.
- A relevant degree and at least 18 years of progressive HSE experience, including 10 years in management and 5 years in senior leadership.
- Experience leading dispersed HSE teams and integrating established teams, systems or ways of working.
- Strong knowledge of Malaysian HSE requirements, critical risk management, investigations and audit programmes.
- Experience in hyperscale data centres, oil and gas, or a comparable high-risk industry.
- Experience with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems.
Direct exposure to hyperscale customers, an ISO 45001 Lead Auditor certification, and qualifications such as NEBOSH Diploma, CMIOSH, CSP or an equivalent will be highly regarded.

This is an opportunity to shape HSE standards at country level during a significant period of growth, while developing the team and systems needed to support the next phase of expansion. Apply now if you wish to find out more.
