An international EPC contractor focused on data centre and mission-critical construction is seeking an experienced Preconstruction Manager as it expands its presence into the Australian market.

This is a key role responsible for managing the preconstruction process from initial design through to the transition into construction, bringing together design, commercial, procurement and construction considerations to establish a strong foundation for project delivery.

The Preconstruction Manager will work closely with internal and external project teams to develop project budgets, tender packages and construction schedules, while driving constructability, procurement and value-engineering initiatives throughout the preconstruction phase.

Key Responsibilities
Preconstruction & Design Management
- Lead and coordinate the preconstruction process across upcoming mission-critical projects.
- Review Tender/RFP documentation and information before distribution to subcontractors and vendors.
- Work closely with Engineers and Construction Managers to develop project-specific scopes of work.
- Lead recurring preconstruction meetings and coordinate stakeholders to ensure key project deadlines are achieved.
- Facilitate constructability reviews with internal and external project teams throughout the design process.
- Identify, track and resolve constructability issues during preconstruction.
- Manage project RFIs and the submittal process throughout the preconstruction phase.

Tendering & Procurement
- Lead the development of detailed MEP-focused tender packages for prospective bidders.
- Coordinate and manage equipment RFPs with equipment vendors.
- Research the market and identify suitably qualified subcontractor partners.
- Work with internal stakeholders to successfully onboard new subcontractors.
- Evaluate subcontractor and vendor proposals and provide best-value recommendations to the project team.
- Lead subcontractor scope review meetings and support Construction Managers through the subcontractor award process.
- Build effective working relationships with subcontractors, vendors and design consultants.
Cost, Value Engineering & Planning
- Develop project budgets and estimates at key design milestones, including 25%, 50%, 90% and 100% construction documentation.
- Identify value-engineering and cost-saving opportunities while maintaining project quality.
- Work alongside the project scheduler and construction team to develop project schedules.
- Ensure commercial, technical and constructability considerations are appropriately addressed before projects move into delivery.
Project Transition & Team Collaboration
- Lead the transition of projects from preconstruction into the construction phase, ensuring continuity between planning and execution.
- Coordinate construction contract details with internal legal and project management teams.
- Support the training and mentoring of Procurement Managers.
- Work collaboratively across engineering, construction, procurement, commercial and external project teams to support successful project outcomes.

Key Qualifications & Experience
The successful candidate will bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or relevant related experience.
- 5–10+ years of relevant industry experience, with a background in MEP construction.
- Strong understanding of construction materials, methodologies and processes.
- Ability to accurately interpret project drawings, plans and technical specifications.
- Strong all-round technical knowledge.
- Demonstrated problem-solving ability, with the capacity to identify issues and develop practical solutions.
- Strong analytical and organisational capabilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with project teams, contractors, suppliers and clients.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Ability to perform effectively within a high-pressure project environment.
- Availability for occasional travel.
