Job Description:

We are looking for a solid and experienced Regional Legal Counsel to join our team to take on a broad range of legal functions on variety of commercial and operational matters that cover all aspects of current business law and legislative changes. This role shall be the catalyst at the HQ of SEA, with the expanding SEA businesses and acts as an advisor on legal issues involving the organization’s government and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities?

  • Working closely and building relationships with multiple business units across the company and across the SEA markets to advise on a wide range of legal matters and ad hoc problems, including corporate governance and organization, contract management, tax law, dispute resolution, employment law, commercial law, licensing, market entry, joint ventures, partnerships and others
  • Support all legal business matters pertaining to the SEA region
  • Provides a variety of general corporate and commercial legal services to internal stakeholders
  • Structuring, drafting and negotiating commercial agreements with banking, payment partners, outsourced service provides, partners and suppliers
  • Understanding the real risks to the business and providing practical advice to the Management and other key stakeholder in business development and expansion
  • Supporting initiatives relating to governance within the group with close support from Group Co Sec and country Co Sec
  • Advising on the legal rights and duties of subsidiary companies and their directors in the SEA region
  • Working with the legal team (other country level) to support the wider needs of the company
  • Staying up to the on legal developments in SEA and advising on future-looking initiatives
  • Coordinates the required legal trainings for the SEA region and affiliate employees

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Law Degree from an established and reputable university is preferred
  • Admission to the bar in one or more SEA countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand or Philipines
  • A minimum of 12-15 years of relevant legal experience, preferably gained in a law firm, corporate legal department, or government agency
  • Experience practicing law in SEA with strong understanding of the legal systems, regulations, and business practices in the region
  • Demonstrated expertise in areas such as commercial contracts, corporate governance, regulatory compliance, dispute resolution, and intellectual property
  • Familiar with the F&B industry or retail sector
  • Experience working with multinational corporations or companies with operations across multiple SEA countries will be advantageous
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with stakeholders at all levels
  • Sound judgment and decision-making abilities, with a proactive and solutions-oriented approach to legal issues
  • Proficiency in legal software and technology tools used for research, document management, and case management.
  • Integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct in all aspects of work.
  • Adaptability and resilience in dealing with complex legal issues and changing business environments.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships across diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Excellent command of English and Mandarin Chinese (both written and oral) as working language to cooperate with international stakeholders and stakeholders who are based in China HQ
  • Proficiency in one or more additional languages commonly spoken in the region, such as Mandarin, Bahasa Indonesia, Thai, or Filipino, is not mandatory but may be beneficial to the company
