We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Subject Matter Expert (SME) - Mechanical Project Engineer to provide critical technical domain expertise across the entire lifecycle of our cutting-edge data center projects. This includes design, construction, testing, and commissioning phases. You will be the technical authority within our Project/Engineering team, ensuring that all mechanical systems – encompassing cooling, HVAC, chilled water, and related infrastructure – are meticulously designed, robustly built, and delivered to the highest standards of reliability, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency. This role is instrumental in supporting multiple sites or projects, driving engineering governance, standardizing best practices, and pushing innovation across the region.

Key Responsibilities
- Project Execution & Guidance:
  • Serve as the go-to subject matter expert, providing critical technical guidance throughout project planning, construction, and commissioning stages.
  • Rigorously review shop drawings, material submittals, and method statements for all mechanical works, ensuring alignment with specifications and best practices.
  • Conduct thorough site inspections to guarantee installation quality, superior workmanship, and strict adherence to design intent.
  • Facilitate seamless integration of mechanical systems with electrical infrastructure, Building Management Systems (BMS), and fire safety systems.
  • Collaborate proactively with contractors and vendors to swiftly resolve technical challenges and design discrepancies.
- Commissioning & Seamless Handover:
  • Review and approve comprehensive commissioning plans, procedures, and test scripts for complex mechanical systems.
  • Actively witness testing and commissioning activities, validating system reliability and performance against stringent benchmarks.
  • Support the smooth transition from project completion to operational handover, ensuring all documentation and as-built drawings are complete, accurate, and readily accessible.
  • Continuous Improvement & Innovation:
  • Systematically identify lessons learned and areas for improvement from past projects, integrating these insights into future designs and processes.
  • Champion innovation in mechanical system efficiency, sustainability, and maintainability to ensure our data centers remain cutting-edge.
  • Benchmark data center performance and spearhead optimization strategies for cooling and energy utilization.
- Strategic Stakeholder Coordination:
  • Work in close partnership with diverse internal stakeholders (Operations, Design, Procurement, HSE, QA/QC) to ensure complete project alignment and success.
  • Provide expert technical input during procurement processes, tender evaluations, and vendor qualification to select the best partners.
  • Contribute valuable insights to due diligence and feasibility studies for new data center sites or expansions.
Key Requirements:
- Educational Foundation: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent relevant field.
Extensive Experience: 8–12 years of progressive, relevant experience specifically within data center, mission-critical, or large-scale industrial building projects.
- Mechanical Systems Mastery: Deep, strong knowledge of mechanical systems critical for data centers, including chilled water systems, direct expansion (DX) systems, pumps, heat exchangers, valves, and advanced controls.
- Regulatory Savvy: Familiarity with industry standards such as ASHRAE, TIA-942, NFPA, and relevant local codes.
- Full Lifecycle Expertise: Proven experience in design review, construction supervision, and the comprehensive commissioning of mechanical systems.
- Technical Acumen: Proficient in reading and interpreting complex mechanical drawings, schematics, and performing system calculations.
- Exceptional Communicator: Strong project coordination, communication, and stakeholder management skills are paramount.
- Data Center Specific Experience:
Prior experience in managing data center projects and successfully handing them over to stakeholders within established schedules.
- Direct experience with or engagement in Integrated System Testing (IST) alongside hyperscale customers in data center projects.
- Software Proficiency: Familiar with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, AutoCAD, BIM, and MS Project.
